COGS FAQ

We welcome anyone keen to be part of a team and gain racing experience. Some previous sailing experience is advised due to the length of the sailing day, but racing experience is not required.

You’ll need your own personal sailing kit, including suitable clothing layers. All boat equipment and safety equipment is provided.

You’ll receive ongoing coaching and guidance from our experienced skippers and crew, with an emphasis on learning as well as enjoying the racing.

If the race is cancelled due to weather and cannot be rescheduled, you will be offered a place on another race where possible, or refunded. For 2-day events, we monitor the forecast closely and may adjust the schedule—for example, sailing a longer day or overnight rather than staying in port—if conditions make it safer or more efficient.

A 2-day event typically includes a full day of racing plus travel to or from the start or finish port. For example:

  • For the Falmouth–Fowey race, we start in Falmouth, stay overnight in Fowey, and return the next day.
  • For the Plymouth–Fowey race, we travel to Plymouth the day before the race, race, and then sail back to Falmouth afterward.

No problem. We understand things come up. You can have someone else take the place for the races your teammate can’t attend, with just a small administration fee.

We aim to be flexible depending on the weather and timing. If a meal is needed on board, we will provide it. If we reach port in good time, we may choose to dine ashore instead, in which case we will not provide an onboard meal.
