RYA Practical Courses
Welcome to our RYA Training Centre, based in Mylor Yacht Harbour, Falmouth we are lucky to have some incredible waters on our doorstep. With in the Fal Estuary we have busy marinas, secluded anchorages, rivers, creeks and open water to explore. Through out your course we try visit as many of these areas as possible, a night at anchor in the Helford Passage with a clear sky is hard to beat but a trip the Heron Inn at Malpas after a busy day on the water is up there too! Venturing out further, Cornwall has Stunning and dramatic coastlines punctuated but welcoming harbours and anchorages. We often visit; Fowey, Newlyn, the Yealm and the Scillies.
The RYA cruising syllabus is laid out to offer a clear progression from total beginner to competent and independent skipper. As the courses progress in difficulty you will see more pre-requisites listed, it is important to be honest and realistic with these as you will get far more out of being on the appropriate course rather than trying to race ahead.
We limit our group size to 4 on our advertised courses so you will get plenty of time at the helm and be sure of lots of tuition from our instructors. For private courses you are able to bring 5 people if you wish.
The RYA courses are designed to run combined with other courses in the same scheme, so a Competent Crew course will often run with a Day Skipper course.
In between courses you will need to gain milage and practice your skills, we offer mile builders and skills weekends throughout the year to help you achieve this.
Our courses start and end at Mylor Yacht Harbour, close to Falmouth and Truro. We provide free parking for all course participants.
